Holmes claims it whisper quiet but I find it a little noisy but nothing that would make me turn it off. Quit honestly, I love this heater and can't believe it took me 50 years to try a radiant heater. You can expect to pay between $50 to $60 depending on when and where you purchase it. This heater is 14 inches tall and is equipped with a technology called Ecosave. This means the heater will cycle from 1500 watts to 1000 watts automatically helping you save energy. As the coil element heats up a fan will push the air out. If the unit is running for 4 hours it is equipped with a "watt-saver" that will automatically turn the unit off. I will tell you that if this happens it takes a while for the unit to start back up, so buyer be warned. It is a bigger compact space heater so you can easily warm larger rooms compared to the other ones we review below. At a touch under 10 inches this is one small heater. Holmes HFH442-UM Heater Fan with Adjustable Thermostat and ALCI Plug The HFH442 is only 12 inches tall and you have a choice of mounting it or using it on the floor. This is a perfect heater for a bathroom or small bedroom, however it has the power to warm up a larger bedroom. The beauty of this unit is the ALCI plug which means if you drop it in water or water gets on it, the built in fuse will blow before anything in your house will blow. The unit has two settings, high/low and when you turn it on it will always go back to the setting it was on before you turned it off. Beware when you turn it off from the high position it will power cycle down from high to low and then off. If you overheat this unit it will turn off and it takes time for it to cool down before you can turn it on again. The temperature control is easy to use and you have two wattage settings of 1000 watts or 1500 watts. It has a fan only setting with a carry handle and if you accidently knock it over, it shuts off automatically and you can reset it to heat again. Reviews do talk about noise being a factor, so be warned that it might be a bit loud. However, you never know what some people think is loud and what is quiet. It's inexpensive, has high/low settings, thermostat you can set the degrees from 60-80, it's only 11 inches tall, and it will shut off when your room or area hits that degree mark.
